Spring Loader

A weight hangs from a coil spring, gets pulled down, then bounces up and settles with damped oscillation. The SVG coil scales with a non-scaling stroke.

Also known as: coil spring animation, mass on a spring, bouncing spring loader.

HTML

<div class="ldr-spring" role="status" aria-label="Loading">
  <svg class="ldr-spring-coil" viewBox="0 0 20 60" preserveAspectRatio="none" aria-hidden="true">
    <polyline points="10,0 10,5 2,9 18,14 2,19 18,24 2,29 18,34 2,39 18,44 2,49 18,54 10,57 10,60" />
  </svg>
  <span class="ldr-spring-mass"></span>

Customizing this loader

  • Color: set --ldr-color on the element or a parent. Currently previewing #3b82f6.
  • Size: set --ldr-size. Every dimension in the snippet is derived from it. Currently previewing 64px.
  • Speed: change the duration on the animation shorthand. Delays on the children are relative, so they keep their rhythm.
  • Accessibility: the root carries role="status" and an aria-label so screen readers announce the wait. The reduced-motion rule at the end slows the animation for users who asked for less motion.
