Spin

Turns a full circle every second at constant speed, forever. The go-to for a refresh icon or a busy state. Linear timing and a single to keyframe, the same motion as Tailwind's animate-spin.

Also known as: css rotate 360 infinite, spin animation css, infinite rotation.

HTML

<div class="kfa-spin"><svg class="kfa-spin-icon" viewBox="0 0 24 24" aria-hidden="true"><path d="M19.5 12a7.5 7.5 0 1 1-2.2-5.3" /><path d="M19.8 3.8v4h-4" /></svg></div>

Tailwind CSS version

The same effect using Tailwind utility classes. No custom CSS or config needed.

<div class="grid h-[5.5em] w-[5.5em] animate-spin place-items-center rounded-[1em] bg-blue-500 text-white">
  <svg class="h-[2.4em] w-[2.4em]" viewBox="0 0 24 24" fill="none" stroke="currentColor" stroke-width="2.4" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" aria-hidden="true"><path d="M19.5 12a7.5 7.5 0 1 1-2.2-5.3" /><path d="M19.8 3.8v4h-4" /></svg>
</div>

Customizing this snippet

  • Color: set --kfa-color on the element or a parent. Currently previewing #3b82f6.
  • Base size: set --kfa-size. Every other dimension is in em, so the whole thing scales together. Currently previewing 16px.
  • Speed: change the duration on the transition or animation shorthand. Staggered delays are relative, so they keep their rhythm.
  • Reduced motion: the rule at the end of the CSS turns the motion off for people who asked their OS for less of it. Keep it.
