Back Pulse Hover Effect

The tinted button fills with the accent on hover, then its background keeps throbbing gently while the pointer stays, like a record light. The pulse waits half a second, so the fill lands first.

Also known as: hvr-back-pulse, pulsing background button, recording button hover css.

HTML

<button class="hfx-back-pulse"><svg viewBox="0 0 24 24" fill="none" stroke="currentColor" stroke-width="2" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" aria-hidden="true"><rect x="9" y="3" width="6" height="11" rx="3"/><path d="M5 11a7 7 0 0 0 14 0M12 18v3"/></svg>Start recording</button>

Customizing this snippet

  • Color: set --hfx-color on the element or a parent. Currently previewing #3b82f6.
  • Base size: set --hfx-size. Every other dimension is in em, so the whole thing scales together. Currently previewing 16px.
  • Speed: change the duration on the transition or animation shorthand. Staggered delays are relative, so they keep their rhythm.
  • Reduced motion: the rule at the end of the CSS turns the motion off for people who asked their OS for less of it. Keep it.
